My Little White House….no really…..it’s LITTLE.
712 sq ft perfect in EVERY way little.
(until we out grow it and need to build on! haha)
I want to share a bit about how we got this house….it was a miracle indeed!
THE STORY-
We’ve lived in this neighborhood for about 2 1/2 years (2011). Mr. Incredible and I would go on walks around here and thought how cool it would be to buy a house in this neighborhood. We picked the house we thought would be fun to live in…a little white house with a big yard. Little did we know that house would become ours.
When I was first diagnosed with Usher Syndrome II (2012), it was apparent that we needed to make sure we buy a house that is walking distance to a shopping center so that I would have the freedom to walk to stores when needed. We couldn’t find anything more perfect than the neighborhood that we lived in. With the housing market the way it has been, we seriously had NO hope in finding a home within our budget. I learned a friend of ours bought their home and they were able to do it because it never went on the market. AH HA!! That’s it! I told my husband that we needed to pray for a house that wouldn’t get on the market or we would have NO chance at all. So we did.
I received an email from my landlord telling me that there was a home in our neighborhood that might be up for sale soon because the lady was in a nursing home and they didn’t know what to do with the home, like if they were going to rent it out…sell it…etc. (she knew we were house looking) It turned out to be THE little white house! I told our realtor that we wanted to go door to door in our neighborhood and ask if anyone was selling and I mentioned the little white house.
Check this out….
Our realtor offered to do the door to door for us and on the day she did, the grandson of the women who owned the little white house was there at the house. Mind you, he is from ARIZONA!! How awesome she caught him the day he was there! So since the house was in a trust, he couldn’t sell it and the women was in no condition to make any decisions. So we just waited patiently (about 8 months) until they figured something out or, awkwardly, for her to pass away. I prayed a lot for the family because I did not in no way wished for her to die and I prayed that she had salvation and that she would pass away peacefully if she did.
Then that bittersweet day came. The ball started rolling. Our realtor asked the grandson what his price was for the house and kid you not, his price was $1 dollar under on the offer amount we were going to give. It was an answer to prayer! He gladly accepted. 🙂
What would have been just a 10 day escrow turned out over a month long because it was right when the government decided to be childish and shut down. ha! But it worked out well because I WAS 9 months pregnant and it was a good thing to be in the same rental duplex from the last time I gave birth with my son. Everything was familiar and I didn’t have to go find the box of this or that.
The house became ours on November 6th (4 days after our daughter was born) and we moved in on November 23rd. My husband worked long and hard to paint all the wood paneling before we moved in so that I could see better inside. Wood is beautiful but not good for when I need light! He removed the wood-stove and bricks which made the living room bigger, installed a dishwasher, and countless of other projects. Do they ever end? NOOOOOooooooooooo. I am SO lucky to have a handyman husband.
We have already met tons of neighbors and they are all pretty great. Our neighbors on the right of us (or would that be left?) is a family that we have met before in the past so it felt like we had some kind of connection with them already. How cool is THAT??
I hope that we will be able to show you some before and after pictures soon. We’ve got lots of projects going and wanting to do (more lights in living room, putting grass in our yard, a veggie garden, a laundry room, a third bedroom, walk in closet, a bathroom to have a bath tub, dinning room, etc.) Exciting! Course…it may take 100 years before we can make all of those major additions to our home…but who knows. Maybe we will win the lotto. OR Maybe Ellen DeGeneres will chose us to do a makeover! HI ELLEN!! or Extreme Makeover Home Edition! HI Ty! Regardless of how we will do this…we know it will be a step by step process and it’s going to be a big adventure!
I still am in awe that we actually own a home. It’s my little white house. I know we will make many memories in here and I pray that it will bless those that come into it.
